Many of the students in the electroacoustic studies program embarked on their academic journey during the pandemic, a period marked by restrictions on collaboration and public performances. LIVETOUCH aims to equip them with essential live performance skills and reshape their understanding of what a live public presentation of their work can encompass.
LIVETOUCH begins with a three-hour, completely custom-made somatic practice workshop, led by Valérie Sabbah, a dancer, choreographer, and somatic arts therapist. Valérie's expertise, cultivated through her work with the Rimouski-based experimental music collective Tour de Bras, focuses on enhancing body awareness for musician / performers, bridging the gap between physical movement and creative expression. Attendees will improvise a performance integrating embodied principles into their practice to close the workshop. The workshop will be Pay What You Can and is also open to students from the Jazz, music and other performing arts programs.
Participants will engage in one-on-one conceptualization, feedback, and peer resource-sharing sessions. Experienced performers from the program will provide additional guidance. This collaborative approach nurtures planning, communication, and performance skills.
Live Performance - LIVETOUCH closing event
The culminating event of this initiative will be a live performance showcase. Here, students will apply the skills they’ve acquired, using this public platform to express their research, explore their creative practice, experiment with their compositions, and connect with an audience. LIVETOUCH endeavours to bridge the gap between the technical and expressive dimensions of electroacoustic music, equipping students with the tools and confidence they need to deliver captivating live performances. By combining somatic practice, mentoring, and live showcases, this project will elevate the next generation of electroacoustic musicians and enrich the sonic landscapes they create.
